Flemish Arts Centre de Brakke Grond is turning 41 and proud. With a weekend-long party Fier als een gieter we’ll reflect and celebrate our work so far, but also look forward: in this case with a weekend full of music, theatre, visual arts and everything in between. Old acquaintances and long-standing partners are invited, along with new makers who will give a sneak peek of our upcoming adventures together.
EXPLORING
The overarching theme of the weekend is dreams for the future: from the artists to the Brakke Grond and the arts themselves, and from the Brakke Grond to the sector. So you’ll find that our Grote zaal has been taken over by a wishing well. This is not just an artwork unto itself, but also sets the scene for the various programme elements in the space. There will also be smaller exhibitions, installations and performances which wouldn’t usually all fit into a singular evening programme. After all, a party can also be an exploration, an adventure, a stimulation of the senses.
THE MAKER TAKES THE LEAD
De Brakke Grond believes in letting the maker lead, whether they make sculptures, dance or play the synthesizer. With Fier als een gieter we want to give Flemish talent the chance to grow and blossom, and introduce themselves to the Netherlands. That’s why we invited someone who moves between the two worlds with ease and is just as comfortable taking to the stage as curating a programme: Laurens Mariën and his collective Nein will give this weekend their signature interdisciplinary touch. You’ll also find performances, installations and other contributions from familiar names like Christian Bakalov, buren en Salomé Mooij.
But it’s still a party, with beer, shrimp croquettes and ample opportunity to dance. We hope to see you there!
